DVD collection finally available for pre-order!!!!! [Jun. 7th, 2007|07:21 pm]
Dave McKean fans

Dave's compilation of short films is now available for pre-order on dvd:

Keanoshow, A Collection of Short Films by Dave McKean

In this stunning showcase of seventeen short works from designer, animator, and director Dave McKean (Mirrormask), surreal and evocative images combine with strange and original stories, to create a world of memory and dreams.

Blending live-action, drawings, collage, and computer animation--the films included in this definitive collection share sensibilities with his award-winning comics (Sandman, Cages, Mr. Punch, Signal To Noise) and children's books collaborations (The Wolves in the Walls, Coraline). From the disquieting ghost story "N[eon]" to the playful creation narrative "The Week Before", these films evoke both the earliest experiments in silent cinema, and the most contemporary of digital creations. The film "Show + Tell" traces the evolution of McKean's moving picture works, and his mall, trusted team that would progress to making feature films.

Disc contains:
Short films: The Week Before (23 mins.), N[eon] (28 mins.), Displacements (22 mins.), Whack! (14.5 mins.), Dawn (9 mins.)

Extra Moving Things: Sonnet No. 138, Raindance 7, Reason, Reminded, Kodak - Take Pictures Further (documentary), A Short Film for Adobe (documentary), Signal To Noise (sampler), Show and Tell (documentary)

Music films: Buckethead "The Ballad of Buckethead", Lowcraft "One of Us", Izzy "Una Furtiva Lagrima", Iain Ballammy/Stian Carstenen

Extra Still Things: Biography, Essay 25 Lessons a Second, Photography portfolio, Illustration portfolio

Amazon has it up for pre-order here for $19.99: http://www.amazon.com/Dave-Mckeans-Keanoshow-Book-Col/dp/B000P6R5V6/

Meeting Dave [Dec. 21st, 2006|04:05 pm]
Dave McKean fans
I've only just joined your community and am pretty new to the whole LJ world but I thought I'd drop by to say 'Hi' and also the following:

I was lucky enough to attend a extremely small showing (25 people max.) of his film 'MirrorMask' on the 12th of this month. Dave was kinda enough to drive all the way from is home (in Kent?) to Windsor and do a 30-40 minute Q&A after the screening. It was amazing to be in the same room as him, nevermind getting the chance to actually ask him questions and chat with him face to face. He is a great guy!

The movie was outstanding (my first time seeing MirrorMask) and it's made me an even bigger fan of his work. He also gave a few details about upcoming releases from himself in 2007 - these I thought you might like to hear about (if you haven't already heard of them - I have no idea if they've already been announced somewhere).

First off Dave said producing MirrorMask was a very weird experience for him in terms of being in charge and having to ochestrate a whole group of people so he's now writing/directing/producing a much smaller scale film called 'Luna' which is completely live action and set to be out sometime in the first half of next year.

Another thing he mentioned was that all of his previously unreleased short film work will be coming out shortly in a DVD 2-disc/boxset.

I'm afraid right now they are the only two things I can remember him mentioning, I'll let you know if any more come to mind.

Excerpt from Niel Gaimen's Blog:

I spent a pleasant day yesterday at Dave McKean's house, and I can report that he is currently working on the long-awaited DVD of all his short films. He's even made a small documentary to go on it (my favourite bit is when he interviews himself-eight-years-ago), and has finished several unfinished films, including an animated film he made as a student and WHACK!, a film he made about Punch and Judy characters originally done for the Mr Punch CD Rom that never happened.

Mirrormask in the UK [Jan. 5th, 2006|11:34 am]
Dave McKean fans

MirrorMask is getting its official cinema release in the UK during the first week of March.
However, the Mancunians amongst you are in luck:

Odeon Manchester, in the UK, are showing "Mirrormask" from Friday - for one week, to make sure it qualifies for the BAFTAs, so I think it's the only place in the UK to see it right now.
